Basketball Recap: West Valley Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Gerald Minott and Victor Contreras

It was a good run, but West Valley Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 65-58 to the Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes.

West Valley Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Victor Contreras and Gerald Minott. Contreras dropped a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Minott dropped a double-double with 22 points and 17 boards. Minott is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Carter Valenzuela, who posted seven points and five boards.

West Valley Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Heritage Academy Gateway, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4.

West Valley Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Flagstaff Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026. As for Heritage Academy Gateway, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 52-42 victory against Varsity Opponent on the 20th.
