The St. Raphael Academy Saints will face off against the North Kingstown Skippers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Raphael Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, St. Raphael Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Prout and fell 6-5. The Saints have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Isabella Sousa put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Noelle Welch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Sophie Roman was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Kingstown faced Portsmouth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Skippers came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 11-7.
Amelia Fries was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia D'Andrea, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Having lost for the first time this season, St. Raphael Academy fell to 4-1. As for North Kingstown, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Raphael Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Kingstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. Raphael Academy took their win against North Kingstown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Skippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
