Recap: Eastside Spartans vs. Carvers Bay Bears
This season hasn't been kind to the Eastside Spartans, who are still winless after their fifth game. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 59-38 walloping at the hands of Carvers Bay on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Eastside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 376th in Virginia, while Carvers Bay is ranked 169th in South Carolina).
Carvers Bay can attribute much of their success to Kyree Smith, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Kenard Heyward, who scored 11 points.
Eastside's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5. As for Carvers Bay, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Eastside won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Joseph's Catholic at 2:30 p.m. on December 22nd. St. Joseph's Catholic will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. As for Carvers Bay, they will head out on the road to face off against Calhoun Falls Charter at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
