Softball Recap: Chesapeake Comes Up Short

Chesapeake had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-18 to make it four. They came up short against the South Point Pointers, falling 14-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pointers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-2 back in April.

As for South Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by eight runs or more this season.

For South Point's part, Kota Copley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Copley has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adyson Copley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Alli Stidham was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Chesapeake does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Point, they will head out on the road to challenge Symmes Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Pointers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
