Basketball Recap: Taeshon Martin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mount Airy over North Surry

Mount Airy lost against North Surry last Wednesday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Mount Airy Granite Bears fell just short of the North Surry Greyhounds by a score of 54-51. While losing is never fun, the Granite Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Greyhounds are ranked 136th).

Mount Airy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Taeshon Martin, who posted 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. He is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Clabo, who went 6-for-15 en route to 14 points and six boards.

North Surry found their leader in freshman Jhett Tolbert, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tolbert has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julius Brintle, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 12 points.

Mount Airy's record is now 9-11. As for North Surry, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Mount Airy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-44 win against Elkin on the 12th. As for North Surry, they have also already played their next game, a 79-74 victory against Surry Central on the 12th.
