Baseball Recap: Central's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

There's no place like home for Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-5 win over the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cobras as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Rupert Blackwood Jr tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since February 4th.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Ruel, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Singletary, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central will venture away from home to take on Suncoast at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, they will challenge Merritt Island Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
