Game recap: Rockbridge County High School Football Team wins against Northside

ROANOKE, Va. - Rockbridge County (Lexington, Va.) and Northside (Roanoke, Va.) both received superb games from their defenses, but Rockbridge County was able to break through the stalemate for a 7-3 win.

The Wildcats scored on a rushing touchdown to pull out the win.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Porter Abell in the second quarter, Rockbridge County led 7-0 at the half.

RC saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to four entering the fourth.

The Lexington school's most effective player was Abell. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown.

The Wildcats had given up an average of 17.3 points prior to the contest. The three points that the Vikings ended with were well below their average of 16.1 coming into the game.



Rockbridge County got revenge for last year's 19-6 loss to Northside with the victory.

The loss comes after Northside defeated Byrd 34-27 last week. The loss snapped NHS's 3-game winning streak.

Northside (5-4) will play a AA Blue Ridge game against Lord Botetourt next week, while Rockbridge County (7-2) will take on Byrd also in a AA Blue Ridge game.
