Softball Recap: Johnson Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Johnson waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Burbank Titans a 19-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-0 back in March.

Angelene Gonzales and Anissa Zavala were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Gonzales struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Zavala tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Gonzales got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Zavala got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Munoz, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, seven stolen bases, and five runs. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leticia Gonzales, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Johnson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Johnson's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Burbank, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
