The Pine Tree Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Lindale Eagles at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pine Tree is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Pine Tree came out on top against Troup on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Pirates took their game against the Tigers 7-4.
Zamora Smith was excellent, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Lily Dodson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Pine Tree hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Lindale got the win against Longview on Friday by a conclusive 8-1. Considering the Eagles have won 12 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Lindale let Zaidyn Chamberlain and Emma Watkins run wild. Chamberlain went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Watkins went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Chamberlain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The win got Pine Tree back to even at 5-5. As for Lindale, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pine Tree hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Lindale struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
