Baseball Recap: Ashland Comes Up Short

Ashland extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 11-1 to the Washburn Beavers. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Beavers when the teams met back in June of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ashland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Washburn, they moved to 2-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Washburn's side, Miles Tate and Tommy King did most of the damage at the plate: Tate went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while King got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Tate also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Dumont, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashland will challenge Fort Fairfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season. As for Washburn, they will square off against Hodgdon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
