Basketball Game Preview: Berkeley Prep Buccaneers vs. Lake Highland Prep Highlanders

The Berkeley Prep Buccaneers will face off against the Lake Highland Prep Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Berkeley Prep heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tampa Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Crusaders are ranked 35th).

Meanwhile, Lake Highland Prep waltzed into their match on Friday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Spartans, sneaking past 63-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Highlanders have posted since January 15th.

Berkeley Prep better keep an eye on Michael Madueme. He was instrumental in Lake Highland Prep's win, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 boards. Madueme is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nick Hagopian, who went 5 for 12 to rack up 13 points.

Lake Highland Prep's win bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Berkeley Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.

Berkeley Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake Highland Prep in their previous matchup back in January of 2015, winning 81-70. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Lake Highland Prep's Jaren Lewis, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds.
