Basketball Recap: Flatirons Academy Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Flatirons Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They had just enough and edged the Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles out 29-27. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bison also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Flatirons Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annabelle Rakers, who posted ten points and four steals. Rakers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Emma Donato also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

Dayspring Christian Academy lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mikayla Perman, who had six points and four steals. Those four steals gave Perman a new career-high. Peyten Reese was another key player, putting up five points along with nine rebounds and five steals.

Flatirons Academy pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.3 points per game. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.

Flatirons Academy has already played their next game, a 68-3 win against Clear Creek on the 6th. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, they will take on Gilpin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gilpin County's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Dayspring Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
