Baseball Game Preview: Mercer Mustangs vs. Wilmington Greyhounds

Mercer hasn't had much luck against Wilmington recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Greyhounds at 4:00 p.m. Mercer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Mercer will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Iroquois on Friday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Braves by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mustangs yet this season.

Jayden Amos made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Amos wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Amos, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Another was Kameron Woods, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, Wilmington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Shenango, falling 10-1. The game marked the Greyhounds' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Wilmington's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Mercer, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
