Imperial Valley recap Oct. 9, 2012
Imperial extended the longest winning streak in Imperial Valley this week by beating Southwest, 40-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Tigers.
Imperial's dynamic duo of Chris Carter and DaJon Staton proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Carter threw for 139 yards and two touchdowns and Staton had 63 yards receiving. DeJon Wilson helped Imperial's passing attack out by catching three balls for 56 yards.
Bryce Alexander was the most productive running back in the league this week. In nine carries, he ran for 166 yards as Brawley topped Southwest. Teammate Jared Mohamed added to the ground attack by rushing for 108 yards.
Imperial's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carter has thrown for 668 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Staton has 13 catches for 289 yards. Royce Freeman leads the league in rushing with 1217 yards.
A big matchup in Imperial Valley this week will be when the Tigers take on the Wildcats. As it stands, Imperial is in first, while Brawley is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Tigers and Jon Self's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Imperial comes in having scored 206 this season, while the Wildcats have scored 190. The Tigers scored 40 points last week as they bested Darren Spence's team.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Imperial takes on Brawley. The Tigers have allowed 79 points this season, while the Wildcats have given up 82. Imperial allowed 0 points last week as it beat the Eagles.
Calexico made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,115 from 8,353. The advance stemmed from a 44-7 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
