Basketball Recap: Marlboro County Takes a Loss

Marlboro County played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Andrew Jackson Volunteers and fell 94-34. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Volunteers are ranked tenth).

Loss or not, Marlboro County got some senior leadership from Teyona Jenkins and London Dudley. Jenkins posted six points and 11 boards, while Dudley earned nine points and three steals. That's the most points Dudley has posted since back in December of 2023.

Tamia Watkins continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Andrew Jackson, almost dropping a triple-double on 33 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals. The contest was Watkins' seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ni?Yonna Asbelle, who went 11 of 22 on her way to 27 points along with seven assists and six steals.

Marlboro County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Andrew Jackson, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

Marlboro County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-42 victory against Chambers on the 28th. As for Andrew Jackson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-29 win against Lakewood on the 28th.
