Softball Game Preview: Strawn Greyhounds vs. De Leon Bearcats

For the first time this season, Strawn will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They will head out on the road to face off against the De Leon Bearcats at 5:00 p.m.

Strawn lost 13-7 to San Saba on Friday.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but De Leon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Eula, sneaking past 18-16. The Bearcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Brooklyn Barnes spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and 13 unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Trinity Gonzales was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-5. Those home runs were her first of the season. Alea Rubio was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4.

Gonzales wasn't the only one working in the hit department: De Leon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Strawn might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from De Leon when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Strawn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
