Baseball Game Preview: Mountain View Mavericks vs. Timberline Wolves

The Mountain View Mavericks will square off against the Timberline Wolves at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Mountain View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Rocky Mountain, who was ranked eighth at the time (Mountain View was ranked sixth). The Mavericks fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. The match marked the Mavericks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Owen Perry was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Cade Burnham made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Mountain View: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Timberline was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They lost 9-2 to Middleton. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Vikings recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Timberline saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Messerschmitt, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Mountain View has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Timberline, their loss dropped their record down to 4-11.

Mountain View beat Timberline 4-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
