Arete Prep falls despite strong effort from Sophia De La Rosa

Recap: Arete Prep CHARGERS vs. Horizon Honors Eagles

The Arete Prep CHARGERS's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 52-22 defeat at the hands of Horizon Honors. While losing is never fun, Arete Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Horizon Honors is ranked 80th).

Despite the loss, Arete Prep still got an impressive performance from Sophia De La Rosa, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.

Horizon Honors found their leader in underclassman Audriana Anglada, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Anglada is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Barden, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals.

Arete Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Horizon Honors, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arete Prep will take on San Carlos at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Horizon Honors won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Augustine Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on January 18th. St. Augustine Catholic will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
