Baseball Recap: Justin Garza Triumphs

Justin Garza hadn't done well against Central East recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Guardians walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Bengals. This was payback for the Guardians, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Bohden Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Justin Garza is undefeated when Smith posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Griffin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The win got Justin Garza back to even at 4-4. As for Central East, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Justin Garza will head out to challenge Madera at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Coyotes' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Guardians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Central East, they will venture away from home to square off against Stevenson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
