Baseball Recap: Sedan Comes Up Short

Sedan had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-4 to make it five. They lost 9-3 to the Oxford Wildcats. The Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Sedan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Dickens, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Eli Burris also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Oxford, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Oxford's side, Connor Commerford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Commerford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Oxford let Sam Wheeler and Jonathan Elliott run wild. Wheeler went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Elliott went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Oxford beat Sedan by a score of 3-2 later that day.
