Lone Star has gone 7-1 against Bethune recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lone Star Longhorns will take on the Bethune Bobcats at 11:00 a.m. Bethune took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lone Star, who comes in off a win.
Lone Star is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Peetz 63-25 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.
Lone Star's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jade Kuntz led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. Peytyn Kuntz was another key player, going 6-for-14 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and five steals.
Lone Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Bethune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They came up short against Hi-Plains, falling 55-31. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th in Colorado, while the Patriots are ranked 98th in Colorado).
Lone Star will have to contain Samantha Robinson as she made an impact in Bethune's last game. She posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Paulina Reyes, who put up 13 points and seven rebounds.
The victory got Lone Star back to even at 10-10. As for Bethune, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lone Star has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Bethune struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lone Star strolled past Bethune in their previous meeting on February 8th by a score of 50-31. Will Lone Star repeat their success, or does Bethune have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
