Basketball Recap: Madison Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead C.B. Aycock over Fike

C.B. Aycock easily dispatched South Johnston last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons fell just short of the Fike Demons by a score of 45-43 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Golden Falcons have suffered since February 6, 2024.

C.B. Aycock's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Smith, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Those 13 rebounds gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauren Burton, who posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, C.B. Aycock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Jamaria Freeman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fike, putting up 24 points and four steals. The game was Freeman's 13th in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylar Horvath, who earned five points along with five rebounds and three steals.

C.B. Aycock's record is now 13-5. As for Fike, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.

C.B. Aycock has already played their next match, a 51-32 win against West Johnston on the 7th. As for Fike, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-55 victory against East Wake on the 7th.
