Basketball Recap: Lucy Hiatt and Evie Kendall Secure Win for North Sanpete

North Sanpete hadn't done well against Juan Diego Catholic recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The North Sanpete Hawks greeted the New Year with with a 45-27 victory over the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 60-55 loss the last time these two teams met.

Leading North Sanpete to victory were Evie Kendall and Lucy Hiatt. Kendall posted 14 points and three steals, while Hiatt put up eight points and five rebounds.

North Sanpete has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-8 record this season. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Sanpete will square off against Manti at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manti is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.7 points per game this season. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hillcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
