Basketball Game Preview: Friendswood Mustangs vs. Santa Fe Indians

The Friendswood Mustangs will take on the Santa Fe Indians at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Friendswood picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They managed a 77-71 win over Fort Bend Hightower. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Santa Fe). They blew past Milby 77-51 on Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Indians with their most commanding win of the season.

Santa Fe had a senior duo take command as Aidan Jewell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds and Kaidan Mata went 10 of 13 on his way to 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mata has scored all season. Another player making a difference was John Pearson, who posted 11 points.

Santa Fe was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Friendswood is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Santa Fe, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

Everything came up roses for Friendswood against Santa Fe in their previous meeting back in February, as the team secured a 69-36 win. Will Friendswood repeat their success, or does Santa Fe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
