Baseball Recap: Greater Beckley Christian Wins Going Away Against Elk Valley Christian

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Richwood, Greater Beckley Christian was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the Elk Valley Christian Eagles. This was a revenge game for the Crusaders: when they faced off against the Eagles back in March, they had to take a 12-2 defeat.

Kaden Bolen was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Greater Beckley Christian is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-7 otherwise. Bolen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Gunter, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jayden Nguyen, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Greater Beckley Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Greater Beckley Christian moved to 7-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Elk Valley Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Greater Beckley Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Greenbrier West at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elk Valley Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
