Basketball Recap: Cape Hatteras Takes a Loss

After flying high against Hobgood Charter last Tuesday, Cape Hatteras came back down to earth. The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes were beaten by the Bear Grass Charter Bears 56-27 on Friday. The Hurricanes haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Cape Hatteras lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Taylor Hickman, who posted nine points and eight boards. Hickman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Paizley Schultz was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Callee Perry was nothing short of spectacular for Bear Grass Charter: she almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. What's more, Perry also racked up seven steals, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carly Bembridge, who earned 12 points and four steals.

Cape Hatteras now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Bear Grass Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Cape Hatteras will be playing at home against Mattamuskeet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cape Hatteras is facing Mattamuskeet at the right time seeing as Mattamuskeet is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. Bear Grass Charter has already played their next game (against Ocracoke), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
