Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Houston's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

After losing to Caledonia the last time they met, Houston decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Houston Hilltoppers won by a run and slipped past the Caledonia Cavaliers 4-3.

Adam Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Box, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Houston is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Caledonia moved to 8-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Houston will have a chance to go back-to-back against Caledonia: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
