Basketball Game Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Decatur Central Hawks

Avon and Decatur Central are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Avon Orioles will challenge the Decatur Central Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Avon is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Fishers, who was ranked first at the time (Avon was ranked third). Avon came up short against Fishers on Friday, falling 69-45. The Orioles' loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

Greenwood typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Decatur Central proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Woodmen by a score of 76-68.

Decatur Central's win came from a few key players Avon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Quintyn Voltz, who went 6 of 11 en route to 20 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lavell Love, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 13 points and four steals.

Avon's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2. As for Decatur Central, their record now sits at 5-9.

Avon didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Decatur Central in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 62-56 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avon since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
