Basketball Recap: Vienna Takes a Loss

If Vienna was feeling good fresh off their 69-44 takedown of Calvary Lutheran last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vienna Eagles took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newburg Wolves on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Vienna saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Teagan James went 8 of 16 to rack up 20 points and seven boards. Alex Zimmer was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Vienna's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Newburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5.

Coming up, Vienna will host Tuscumbia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tuscumbia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Vienna likes a good challenge. As for Newburg, they and Steelville will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
