Softball Game Preview: Orofino Maniacs vs. Genesee Bulldogs

The Orofino Maniacs will venture away from home to square off against the Genesee Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Orofino is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Orofino's offense. They came up short against Meridian on Saturday, falling 10-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Maniacs were not able to get on the board.

Orofino saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reece Deyo, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Genesee made easy work of Lewis County co-op [Highland/Nezperce] on Friday and carried off a 36-8 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Genesee is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.4 runs over those games. As for Orofino, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Orofino hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Genesee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Orofino came up short against Genesee in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 7-3. Can the Maniacs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
