Ashdown couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 46-0 loss at the hands of the Mills University Studies Comets. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Comets are ranked 28th).
Leading Mills University Studies to victory were Elijah Moody and Rodney Jackson. Moody threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, while Jackson rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in total yards. Mills University Studies also got help from Vance Cunningham, who showed off his sure hands for 85 receiving yards.
The win made it two in a row for Mills University Studies and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashdown will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Hope at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
