Football Recap: Summit Academy Bears vs. Emery Spartans
Summit Academy and Emery squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Summit Academy had to settle for second. They took a 31-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Emery Spartans. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Despite the loss, Summit Academy still got an impressive performance from Kyle Lively, who picked up 75 receiving yards and a touchdown, and also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Lively got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 60 yards. Summit Academy also got a significant boost from Liam Larson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Porter Hurdsman was his usual excellent self, picking up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Emery. Hurdsman's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 103 receiving yards.
Summit Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-6. As for Emery, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Summit Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Emery, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-14 defeat against San Juan on the 16th.
