Basketball Recap: Union City Comes Up Short

Union City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 53-44 to the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blackhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-36 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, don't look at Jackson Cowper. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-11 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Cowper is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 54% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayson Connor, who posted seven points and three steals.

Union City's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Mississinawa Valley, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Coming up, Union City will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Centerville at 7:30 p.m. Centerville will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Union City surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mississinawa Valley, they are taking a road trip to face off against Covington at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
