Basketball Game Preview: Harlingen South Hawks vs. Rivera Raiders

The Harlingen South Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Harlingen South has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last six games.

Harlingen South is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Donna North 85-19. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Rivera unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Weslaco East. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 881st, while the Wildcats are ranked 356th).

Harlingen South is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Rivera, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-13.

Harlingen South didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Rivera in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 52-48 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Harlingen South since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
