Softball Game Preview: Mechanicville Red Raiders vs. Greenwich Witches

The Mechanicville Red Raiders are taking a road trip to take on the Greenwich Witches at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenwich took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mechanicville, who comes in off a win.

Mechanicville will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Sunday, then bounced right back against Cambridge on Monday. The Red Raiders put the hurt on the N/A with a sharp 10-1 win. The Red Raiders haven't had any issues with the N/A recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Paige Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Pane, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Pane is also crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Loiacono, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 24 runs the game before, Greenwich was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They fell just short of Tamarac by a score of 2-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Witches were not able to get on the board.

The win got Mechanicville back to even at 5-5. As for Greenwich, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Mechanicville was able to grind out a solid victory over Greenwich in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
