Basketball Recap: Smith County Comes Up Short

Smith County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sunlake Seahawks.

Smith County's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Sunlake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith County will host Cannon County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cannon County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Smith County likes a good challenge. As for Sunlake, they will welcome Gaither at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Sunlake is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Gaither a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
