Eastern had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 11-15 to make it six. They came up short against the Trimble Tomcats, falling 14-1. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tomcats earlier this season, when they won 11-0.
Eastern saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlynn Thomas 2027, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
As for Trimble, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games.
On Trimble's side, Jessa Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Davis has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Olivia Kasler was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Laken Smathers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastern will welcome Western at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.9 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Trimble, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Waterford at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
