Volleyball Recap: Joy Toney and Layla Carmichael Secure Win for Wes-Del

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Daleville, Wes-Del was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Union Rockets by a score of 3-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Wes-Del had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 25-9, 25-15, 25-21.

Leading Wes-Del to victory were Layla Carmichael and Joy Toney. Carmichael had ten digs and three aces, while Toney had 11 aces.

They weren't the only good server: Wes-Del was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 27 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September of 2024.

The win got Wes-Del back to even at 1-1. As for Union, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wes-Del is set to challenge their familiar foe Eastern Hancock at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Union will take on rival Monroe Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
