Softball Game Preview: Whiting Oilers vs. Griffith Panthers

For the second straight game, Whiting will face off against Griffith. The Oilers are taking a road trip to face off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Whiting has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Griffith will arrive with five straight wins.

Whiting lost 14-2 to Griffith on Monday.

For Griffith's part, Brylie Bridges and Victoria Nudo were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Bridges pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Nudo pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bridges went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Nudo went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Nudo a new career-high.

In other batting news, Griffith got a big performance out of Morgan Von Ogden, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs Von Ogden has posted since back in April. Cheyanne Fant was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Griffith was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Griffith's record is now 12-5. As for Whiting, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whiting hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Griffith struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
