Basketball Recap: Wayne Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Wayne won the last time they faced Springfield and things went their way on Friday too. The Wayne Warriors snuck past the Springfield Wildcats with a 50-46 victory. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wayne had a senior duo take command as Myles Perkins posted 13 points and Jay'Sean Price earned 13 points. The dominant performance also gave Price a new career-high in blocks (two). Mykell Shackelford was another key player, putting up seven points.

The win made it two in a row for Wayne and bumps their season record up to 12-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 42.3% in those games and 29.6% outside of them. As for Springfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Wayne wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-59 victory against Springboro on the 11th. As for Springfield, they have also already played their next game, a 67-53 defeat against Fairmont on the 11th.
