Softball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Silver's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Silver proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the West Las Vegas Dons 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Fighting Colts have posted since March 14th.

Ariel Alvarado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Lucero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Maria Ruelaz, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Silver is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for West Las Vegas, with the loss, they broke their ten-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

Coincidentally, Silver and West Las Vegas will both be playing Cobre the next time they take the field. The Dons will head out to face the Indians at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Fighting Colts will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
