Preview: Avon Pirates vs. Freeman Flyers
Having just played yesterday, the Avon Pirates will get right back to it and host the Freeman Flyers at 6:15 p.m. on January 26th. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Avon has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Freeman will arrive with five straight victories.
Avon suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were the victim of a rough 72-49 defeat at the hands of Gregory. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Avon in their matchups with Gregory: they've now lost four in a row.
Even though Freeman has not done well against Parker recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Freeman secured a 47-41 W over Parker.
Freeman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tate Sorensen, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds. Sorensen has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. David Walter was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Avon's defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Freeman, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Avon won a match that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, slipping by Freeman 38-37. Does Avon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Freeman turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
