Softball Recap: Winters Drops Highest Score of Season Against Esparto

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winters). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Esparto Spartans a 26-0 shutout on Friday. With that victory, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Raegan Hurst was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hurst was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mia Borges was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Erika Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

Winters always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

With the win, Winters broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-5. As for Esparto, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winters will host Dixon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Esparto, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Princeton at 4:00 p.m. on April 9.
