Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mayville

Mayville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Vassar Vulcans by a score of 10-6. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly four runs.

Emma Fryers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Savannah Weber-Russell and Emmalee Brooks did most of the damage at the plate: Weber-Russell went 1-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while Brooks went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Brooks has posted since May 4th. Lacey Bruman was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Mayville's record is now 13-8. As for Vassar, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Vassar will host Deckerville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mayville will be paying especially close attention to the Vulcans' matchup: after the Vulcans face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Mayville again at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
