Softball Game Preview: Coconino Panthers vs. Mingus Marauders

The Coconino Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Mingus Marauders at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Coconino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Coconino gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Mohave. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Jade Sandoval got the start for Coconino and what a start it was: she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Emma Kennelly was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Katelynn Yazzie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Mingus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against Mohave, falling 14-3.

Mingus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Rosenberg, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Coconino's record now sits at 13-6. As for Mingus, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.

Everything went Coconino's way against Mingus in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Coconino made off with a 13-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
