Volleyball Recap: Parkersburg Extends Winning Streak to Five

Parkersburg came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Ripley Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Big Reds have posted since September 23rd.

Parkersburg had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-17, 15-7.

Chloe Gribble paced Parkersburg's offense, picking up four kills. Gribble got some help from Kelina Utietiang and her seven assists. Finally, Kennedy Porter kept Parkersburg's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Despite the defeat, Ripley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Willow Simon had 11 digs and ten assists. Those 11 digs set a new season-high mark for Simon.

Parkersburg now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Ripley, their loss ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Parkersburg will head out to challenge Parkersburg South at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ripley, they will venture away from home to take on Sissonville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
