Baseball Game Preview: West Covina Bulldogs vs. Covina Colts

The West Covina Bulldogs will face off against the Covina Colts at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (West Covina has three straight victories, Covina has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

West Covina's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Rowland by a score of 3-0.

Max Murillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.

Murillo wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Griffey Moncada, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

West Covina hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, it looked like the Kentucky Derby when Covina took on Costa Mesa on Saturday. The Colts fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 8-7.

Lucas Thorpe was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Donavan Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Covina's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for West Covina, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.

West Covina came out on top in a nail-biter against Covina in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
