Baseball Game Preview: Greene Central Rams vs. Southside Seahawks

The Greene Central Rams are taking a road trip to take on the Southside Seahawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greene Central knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Southside likes a good challenge.

Greene Central's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on West Craven with a sharp 10-0 win. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Sutton Harris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Greene Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Greene Central let Elijah Monroe and Will Radford run wild. Monroe scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Radford got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI. Greene Central is 4-1 when Monroe posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Radford, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Greene Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Southside came into Tuesday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lejeune 12-10. The Seahawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Southside's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Greene Central, their record now sits at 8-6.

Greene Central took their win against Southside in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
