Basketball Recap: Haines Comes Up Short

Haines was the 65-53 winner over Craig when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Haines Glacier Bears lost to the Craig Panthers on the road by a 57-43 margin on Thursday.

It was another big night for Sara Steffen, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 15 rebounds for Craig. Craig is 14-3 when Steffen posts ten or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Smith, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 17 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Haines dropped their record down to 6-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Craig, their win bumped their record up to 15-5.

While Haines had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
