Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Elsie Mitchell and Emma Swenson Lead Smithville to Victory

Smithville had won four straight on the road, but on Thursday they bumped up to 14-3 to make it five. Everything went their way against the Kearney Bulldogs as they made off with a 3-0 win. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Bulldogs on their court since September 22, 2021.

Leading Smithville to victory were Emma Swenson and Elsie Mitchell. Swenson had 11 digs and three aces, while Mitchell had nine digs and four aces. Those 11 digs gave Swenson a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Smithville was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matchups.

As for Kearney, with the defeat, they broke their five-match winning streak and moved their record to 12-6-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since September 17th.

Kearney's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Payton Rudd, who had seven digs and two aces, and Jaydin Flanery, who had seven digs and one assist.

Smithville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Grandview on the 30th. As for Kearney, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Mound City on the 27th.
